From the Mexican border north to Carlsbad, and eastward to Alpine, Greater San Diego provides multifaceted coastal shopping options. Hotel del Coronado, built in 1888 on what’s now Orange Avenue, features Shops at The Del as a mall alternative, with more than 20 boutiques for apparel, jewelry, toys, home accents, and spa products. Seaport Village, a landmark in waterfront shopping and dining with an 1890’s carousel, features more than 50 specialty shops, galleries, a quartet of bay-view restaurants including Edgewater Grill and the San Diego Pier Café, and other casual eateries. Downtown’s historic Gaslamp Quarter’s brick walkways and Victorian-style lamps lead to an eclectic blend of shopping, eateries and entertainment. Downtown’s Horton Plaza, with seven levels covering six blocks serves as another hotspot for good times, features 130 specialty shops, restaurants, and theaters.
Carlsbad Premium Outlets, 30 miles north of downtown, features more than 90 upscale designer and manufacturer outlets including Adidas, Coach, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Fashion Valley on Friars Road, anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s, Robinsons-May, JCPenney, and the area’s only Neiman Marcus, features more than 220 stores and restaurants including Tiffany & Co., M.A.C. Cosmetics, and The Cheesecake Factory. Stretching out over 27 acres, Viejas Outlet Center showcases more than 50 favorite brand names stores including Jones New York, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Gap. Near the border and as the largest fashion outlet center in Greater San Diego, with California’s only Neiman Marcus Last Call, The Shops at Las Americas features more than 125 stores and eateries.
